Traditional leather satchel with feather-quill embroidery, Transylvania, circa 1810 – a rare example of early folk costume accessories from the Transylvanian Saxons.

This Trachtenranzen (traditional belt satchel) showcases the intricate technique of Federkielstickerei - feather-quill embroidery - used to decorate leather with stylized patterns. The design features hand-stitched motifs typical of early 19th-century Saxon craftsmanship, combining durability with ornate detail.

Federkielstickerei involves using split peacock quills to embroider leather surfaces, often enhanced with colored threads. Though commonly associated with Alpine regions, this technique was also practiced among German-speaking communities in Eastern Europe, including the Siebenbürger Sachsen (Transylvanian Saxons).

This satchel is a rare surviving piece of historic leatherwork, ideal for collectors of ethnographic textiles, folk costume artifacts, and German cultural heritage.

The necktie is not included.
